Despite the weather predictions of rain all week, the Dark Sky Rally was a success. Each day, we checked our phones, and as the rain moved on, we were able to enjoy our week in southern Utah! Our Dark Sky RV Park hosts were terrific. Britt and her family supported our members from the time we arrived until the moment we left. Our ten sites were all lovely and situated in a way that made it easy to access everything.

Staff greeted our members with a beverage and even hosted a tasty chilli baked potato dinner for everyone staying at the venue.

We kicked off the rally with an incredible Dark Sky Star Party hosted by members of the Stellar Vista Observatory. Eric Simms, the Observatory secretary and a data scientist, impressed us with his astronomical knowledge and his humorous repartee. Our group was happy to support this 501(c) (non-profit) organization in its efforts to connect people with the beauty of the night sky. We completed our astronomical experiences with a viewing of the movie “Galaxy Quest”, filmed in Utah.

During the week, we visited National Parks, including Zion and Bryce, both of which were packed despite dire weather warnings. Some members visited the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and volunteered their time to feed animals and help clean the facility. No one got stuck in a slot canyon, and we enjoyed hiking in the area!

Kudos to co-hosts Don & Karen Conley and Eric & Teresa Sanchez.

p.s. Don’t forget to vote on the confirmation of the 2026 Board of Directors. If you are a full-member of the Four Corners Unit then you should have received an invitation via email to vote earlier this week.
