Good morning 4CU!

These monthly updates are usually right full of news and this month is no exception. Like, whoa! We have new members to welcome, the results of our board confirmation vote, a new rally added to the slate for 2025, and four, yes, four!!!, rally reports to share: Kanab, Balloon Fiesta, International Rally, and the Phoenix Social. Phew, I’m getting exhausted just thinking about how long it’s gonna take to stuff this newsletter into all the envelopes…. oh wait, never mind. 🙂

This club is built on its fabulous members so without further rambling on (soooooo much coffee today! Jen’s away so there’s no one telling me to stop!) let’s take a moment to give a warm embrace to our latest members!

Results: 2025 Board Leadership Vote

Okay, this is huge! The number I’m about to share. Huge. 106 members submitted their vote to confirm our 2025 Board Leadership slate. This is absolutely wonderful and, so far as I am aware, it is, hands down, the most active response we’ve had.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

We look forward to introducing your board in December.

Rally Round-Up

Keepin’ It Real In Kanab

By Steve and Cindy MacKenzie and Les and Gayle Miller

14 rigs and 28 4CU members came together at the Dark Sky RV Park in Kanab, Utah for a beautiful Autumn rally in Kanab, Utah. Members explored many features of the area, including Zion National Park, the Peek-a-boo slot canyons, petroglyphs, Pink Coral Sand Dunes State Park, Vermilion Cliffs, and the small town of Kanab, where many great restaurants were found.

A popular tour was the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, an animal shelter encompassing more than 36,000 acres, providing home, rehabilitation, and adoption services to up to 1600 animals from birds to horses. At least one cat is a new member of a 4CU family.

The dark skies of Kanab were somewhat uncooperative with a weather system passing through, but that did not dampen the spirits of attendees, with views of the Moon, Venus, the Milky Way, and comet C2023 A3 visible at times.

The Dark Sky RV Park venue was wonderful, with friendly, attentive, and informative hosts, a cozy meeting area complete with an outdoor kitchen and fire pits, even blankets available to ward off any cool breezes.

It was a great place where breakfast pastries, happy hours, ukulele playing, and good conversation were enjoyed by all. Even a chili cookoff and beverages provided by our RV park hosts! Jeeps and eBikes were available for rent for anyone desiring off-property or off-road adventures, and some did!

Thank you to all our attendees who made this a very enjoyable rally!

And a huge thank-you to the Millers and Mackenzies for hosting this rally!

Balloon Fiesta National Airstream Rally

By Richard and Jan Girard

On October 4th, 150 Airstreams parked just South of the balloon launch field for the 52nd annual Balloon Fiesta. Members traveled from dozens of states along with several from Canada to attend this year’s event. The state of Texas had the most visitors, and the Four Corners Unit was the most represented local unit/club. This was the 17th year that the Airstream Club has held an event at this location. This National Event Rally is hosted by Region 11.

Over several days the club members were treated to the “Greatest Show Above Earth” and the most photographed event on the planet. This year the weather was warmer than usual, but conditions for flying were perfect. Every morning the sky was full of hundreds of colorful balloons flying overhead and an occasional balloon landing very close to our parking area.

When the balloons were not flying, members were visiting the many vendors on the field and taking part in some of the other rally activities such as the bike ride and the pet parade.

Other activities at the rally included an opening night Mexican Dinner, a static display of a gondola and burner, afternoon gatherings with snacks and an ice cream social.

This is a bucket list event, and it happens every October. Registration for the 2025 rally will take place via lottery in January!

Thanks go to the Girard’s for hosting this year’s Balloon Rally!

International Rally

By Sophia and Steve Rodgers

The 67th Airstream International Rally occurred in Sedalia, MO at the Missouri state fairgrounds from October 5-10. Over 1100 airstreams with 2300 participants attended this year’s festivities.  Prior to the start of the rally, participants could sign up for various excursions including one to a WWI museum, another to the Budweiser Clydesdales, and one to Hamilton to visit the Missouri Star quilt shops.

The rally started with an opening ceremony recognizing the 12 regions and their presidents. John Holly was there to represent us. The ceremony continued with a flag ceremony from each unit within each region.

The flag bearers from Region11 represented by 4CU, NM, AZ, UT, CO, and WY. Sophia Rodgers had the honour of carrying the 4CU flag.

We had a pleasant surprise visit from Diane and Doug Montemeyer. They did not have their Airstream but joined us for 2 days with day passes.

There were numerous workshops presented throughout each day. Some were on maintenance of the Airstreams and others were hobby focused. Lynn Eubank conducted a session on photography and Sophia did 2 on making preemie pillows and her 2 groups made a total of 650 (!!!!) pillows to be donated to the University of New Mexico NICU.

There were several competitions. One was on photography. Several hundred were submitted and voted on by attendees and our own Lynn Eubank took Best of Show which is quite an honour. Sophia Rodgers also won a blue ribbon for the needle point and jewelry categories in the Arts and Crafts competition.

On Tuesday evening we had a Region 11 dinner attended by 132 participants, 10 from 4CU.

If you have not had a chance to attend an International Rally it is highly recommended. It is a great chance to network with people who love everything Airstream.

Next year, the rally will be at York, PA from 23-25 August 2025, and in 2026, it will in in Minot, ND 22-27 August and in 2027 it will be back to Rock Springs, WY in June.

4CU Social – Scottsdale, Arizona

Thank you to organizers Leon and Janet Hauck and Lee and Tammy Gatten.

Phoenix Area 4CU members gathered at State 48 Lager House in Scottsdale, Arizona for Happy Hour on Sunday, October 20th. The venue turned out to be fantastic and the beer and wine were even better!

Over twenty members attended – even Vivian Firlein and Less Jessop came all the way from Page Arizona! Everyone had a nice time sharing and listening to fantastic stories regarding trips, rallies, and caravans. We all enjoyed getting to know each other better, hearing about families, telling jokes and other non-airstream fun. There were plenty of comments about how nice everyone looked in regular (non-camp) clothes!
