4CU August 2026 Update
Greetings 4CU Members!
Enjoy the “Dog Days of Summer” with cool beverages, projects indoors that bring you joy, or chores you have been putting off. It’s also a great time to gather with family and friends for pool-side fun, BBQs, and indoor games. And, don’t forget to plan for cooler times on the road this fall!
Happy 100 years Route 66! The celebration is throughout this year, but Route 66 was officially created in November 1926 by the Bureau of Public Roads. This historic roadway begins in Chicago, Illinois and ends in Santa Monica, California at the pier. Its path was carved from existing local, state, and national roads of the day, and the road and businesses providing services to travelers were improved over time.
During World War II, Route 66 was used as a military transport corridor moving troops and supplies between military facilities. Thousands of jobseekers headed from the east to California, Oregon, and Washington to work in defense plants.
Automobile ownership grew dramatically during the post-war decade, allowing families to travel to the Grand Canyon, Disneyland, and Southern California beaches. Route 66 was decommissioned in 1984. Although no longer a continuous route as five interstates interrupt it’s flow, vacationers still plan travel on this iconic route.

Rally Committee Update
Rally Committee Update – August 2026 by Barbara Engelmann
I ask all of you to think back on why you joined the Four Corners Unit. Was it to meet new friends, become more familiar with your Airstream, or join other Airstreamers when you camp?
The Four Corners Unit rally committee can support rallies in two ways. The first is Member-driven, where a member comes up with an idea for a rally, makes the campground reservation and gets needed support from the rally committee. The second is where the rally committee sets up a rally and then finds a host for the event. The communication and registration for both options are done via a team approach.
The rally committee has some rallies set up for 2027(see listing below), but the unit is looking toward more member-driven rallies. The rally committee will continue to assist in a supportive role with communication, registration, and budgeting.
Think about your favorite camping spot. Would that location make for an ideal rally? Have you wondered about hosting a rally? Rallies can be as relaxed and laid back as you’d like, or they can be themed and as “planned” as you’d like. Let’s get rolling!

RECIPE OF THE MONTH
Fresh Tomato Bruschetta – Kathy Fahey
There is nothing better than a fresh produce appetizer, and summer tomatoes and basil are plentiful and delicious. This recipe is easy, economical, and so fresh and tasty! It easily serves 8.
Ingredients:
- 4 medium to large ripe tomatoes
- 2 gloves chopped garlic and 1 glove for rubbing on the bread
- 4 tablespoons chopped basil (and optional Italian fresh or dried herbs)
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar or balsamic reduction
- 6 to 8 ounces sliced mozarella cheese or grated parmesan cheese
- 1 French baguette or bread of choice
Directions:
- Seed and chop the tomatoes
- Add garlic, basil (and other optional herbs), balsamic vinegar
- Crisp half-inch bread slices at 400 degrees for about 10 minutes until golden and let bread cool
- Rub garlic glove over cooled bread slices
- Pile tomato mixture on bread and top with cheese or serve cheese on the side with more fresh basil leaves
