Rally Roundup

Picacho Peak New Years Rally

by: Louis Hall & Sergio Quiros, Tammy & Lee Gatten

The Four Corners Unit of Airstream Club International New Year’s Eve Rally was a multi-day gathering filled with great weather, fun activities, and wonderful camaraderie. The rally officially began on Tuesday, December 30 with arrivals starting at noon, giving everyone time to get settled and unwind. That evening featured a Meet and Greet Happy Hour with Italian beef sandwiches, followed by a communal bonfire at the group fire pit, setting a relaxed and social tone for the days ahead.

Wednesday, December 31, opened with morning coffee and light fare in support of the 4CU Food Drive. Weather throughout the rally was fantastic. In the evening, members enjoyed an open grill and raffle, preparing their own dinners before gathering for game night featuring Left Right Center. The night concluded with a bonfire, champagne, and firewood contributions as some stalwarts rang in the New Year at midnight, while others celebrated on NYC time.

Thursday, January 1, again began with coffee and light fare benefiting the Food Drive. The only precipitation of the rally occurred early that morning, with some rain and lingering showers. Despite this, approximately 8–10 members headed out on a group hike to the saddle, undeterred by the weather. Later in the day, a Happy Hour mixer and raffle were held, followed by another bonfire at the group fire pit.

Friday, January 2, we handed off the food to the Santa Cruz Valley Food Pantry, we were able to donate two wagon loads of food items. That evening brought one of the most memorable moments of the rally when members were treated to the exciting sight of a Falcon 9 rocket launch—a truly unforgettable experience.

The ever-popular White Elephant gift exchange also took place that day, paired with a Bloody Mary and Margarita Bar. The weather could not have been better—full sun and temperatures in the high 60s. The exchange lasted about 2.5 hours as everyone enjoyed browsing the “fine merchandise.”

That evening featured a comfort food potluck and raffle, encouraging participants to share favourite childhood dishes. An impromptu karaoke session followed and proved to be a highlight of the rally. Special thanks to Terry Gadaire and Mike Brekke for bringing the karaoke setup and making it such a fun night. The evening wrapped up with another bonfire.

Saturday, January 3, started with the usual morning coffee and light fare, along with a presentation on SkyMed travel insurance. Later in the day, members gathered for a Happy Hour mixer and raffle, with heavy appetizers contributed by attendees, followed by the final evening bonfire of the rally.

Throughout the event, there were three evening happy hours featuring raffles for 4CU swag and other items generously provided by vendors. Two nights of Left Right Center added to the fun, with Kirby Collins winning the first night and generously rolling his winnings into the pot for night two. Karla Greenlee emerged as the big winner of the second game.

The rally concluded on Sunday, January 4, with departure goodbyes and checkout by noon, bringing several memorable days of shared meals, activities, laughter, and community to a close.

Looking ahead to future rallies

by: Barbara Engelmann

The rally committee had a very productive zoom meeting this week and we are getting ready for the 2026 rally year – how about you? Are you ready to rally?

There are 15 rallies planned this year, with five of those as part of the Route 66 Centennial Celebration. We are still looking for hosts for many of our rallies. The rally committee is here to help and to serve as a point of contact for each of the rallies. So, if you are new to hosting or co-hosting or a seasoned pro, know that you won’t be thrown into the deep end. We’ll be here to help. We also have tools to help you from start to finish to make hosting a rally a great experience.

The first rally of 2026 is from 26 February – 1 March at McDowell Mountain Regional Park. There are currently three openings!! If you can make it, it’s a beautiful time of year to be in the desert just north of Phoenix.

With no rally planned for March, we rally together again in April when we return to Dead Horse Ranch SP in Cottonwood. This is an exceptionally popular annual rally that we all look forward to. Details regarding registration are coming soon.

In May, it’s something new! We rally at Ruby’s RV Park (FHU) for the Beautiful Bryce Canyon Rally in Utah at the gateway to Bryce Canyon NP. We have a co-host already signed up who is excited to work with the host to make this new rally really special at one of the most beautiful National Parks in the West. Registration details will follow soon.

Let the rally committee know if you’re interested in hosting the Beautiful Bryce Canyon Camping at Ruby’s RV Park!

McDowell Mountain Rally registration opened up just before New Years and there are just three spots remaining. Register here!
